Stargender History

Stargender was coined as "star gender" on January 27th, 2014 by Mars/Marty (se/syr/sym and he/his/him) at nbqt on Tumblr. After the initial post gained traction, se made a follow up post clarifying syr definition of stargender on March 27th, 2014.

In the years since, stargender has been an oft-mocked gender online. Despite that, there still are people who identify as stargender.

Stargender Manifesto
  • Everyone is cringe- but it's your responsibility to deal with your response to others.

  • Not everything must be understood, known, or defined, and that's okay.

  • Respect others, even if you don't understand them.

  • Don't shame others for their identity. No one else is more acceptable to mock than others.

  • Reach for the stars out of which you are made.
